Mansion of La Païva, a prestigious place in the heart of Paris

Nothing predestined Esther Lachman, born from of a poverty-stricken Jewish tailor in the Moscow ghetto, to become one of Paris’ most celebrated courtesans. We explain how this adventuress, while not gifted with exquisite charm, became a marquise wealthy enough to build a fabulous town house, Mansion of La Païva, on the very spot where in her youth she had been humiliated. Today, it is the seat of a prestigious private club and harbours some of the most fabulous mid-19th century decor.
